What do plates do to a keyboard?
Where both keycaps and case affect the sound and looks of a keyboard, the plate of a keyboard only effects the feel. Plate materials vary wildly between brass, aluminum, POM(Polyoxymethylene, a type of plastic), carbon fiber, and even plateless. The reason for all the options is because each material has a different amount of "give" to the plate, that you can feel when you type onto the keyboard. Metals are usually stiffer, and plastics being more flexable. Lighter weight metals like aluminum can sometimes cause a "pinging" noise similar to the one mentioned in the case section, but at a quieter level. In many cases people go with brass or a plastic plate.
The reasoning behind these picks is because many people enjoy a "bouncier" typing experience, but some people care much more about sound than feel. This divide of wanting a certain sound vs a certain feeling makes it so there is a lot of options when it comes to plate material. Keyboard Youtuber "Keybored" went very in-depth in a section in one of his videos that I have gone ahead and linked below for you to check out!
